Very pleased with this quality set. Very bright, sharp picture – no need for 1080p on a mere 32 inch set, but still works brilliantly with HD broadcasts and blu-ray discs. Very easy to use and to set up. Couldn’t be more pleased.

This is used in my office as a not so important TV so I opted for 720 not 1080p. The unit is on my satellite hook up and is not HD. The picture is fine even in standard definition and I was able to find it on line for less than $400.00. A very good price compared to the stores in my area.

Sony Bravia KDL-32XBR9

This is a nice display – once you set up the screen correctly to turn down the garishly bright colors that it has by default. The naming of inputs is a nice feature, as is the auto-on capability (automaticlaly remembers the power setting when AC is applied).

Unfortunately, Sony is hyping their 40,000:1 contrast ratio on the XBR9 series, but they accomplish this by turning down the backlight on dark scenes. This is utterly stupid, as it causes all of the picture elements in a scene to go dark, even those that should be bright. The backlight will turn down even when some scene elements are still at normal brightness (>70 IRE), causing them to dim into darkness. This is unacceptable, and turning off the “advanced contrast enhancement” in the menus has no effect. I have demonstrated this issue on several sets, and have shown this to Sony representatives, and while they acknowledge the defect they have done nothing to address it.

A winner

Gorgeous picture with perfect color. Dark scenes in movies are too dark. Adjustments are helpful. Most menu options are intuitive. “Favorites” is poorly designed, e.g. the current channel is listed twice if it is a favorite. The infrequently used Menu button is highlighted while the frequently used Favorites button is not. Remote control is comfortable to hold. Four HDMI connections, but only one on rear; others on side. Cables protrude when connected to side jacks. Clock does not automatically adjust with daylight savings time changes. Remote is not programmable to work with non-Sony DVR.

Very pleased with video & audio quality.
